Certainly faith is something one has to do, and certainly it is "the gift of God" and does not originate in ourselves. I thought of writing on in this article about the fact that faith comes from God, but that wasn't the purpose of the article.

Faith is a work-...it's just not at work of man (as supposed)-faith is the work of God through the Spirit. This is not just my opinion, but the scripture teach this:

1Thes 1:3 -Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

As a former Catholic, I can really relate to what your sharing about works in order to be saved. Your never quite sure if you've done enough or IF your acceptable enough. It's a terrible fear one has; never knowing. The assurance of your salvation is not there.

I agree completely, Jimmy. Faith does not originate with us but comes from God. "It is the gift of God." So not only the nature of faith, but also the origin of faith, leaves no grounds for boasting. Salvation is of the Lord!

I think many think of "faith" as a work because they have an improper understanding of what the preached word does. Paul tells us in Romans that "faith comes by hearing." Faith itself does not originate with us, but it originates with the preached word. The preached word alone produces faith. Thus, even though Habakkuk said "the just shall be saved by his faith," we must understand that faith
